Letter from the Director

Dear Friend of Chestnut Hill Center,

As we approach Easter, I hope everyone is having a prayerful Lent. Here are some pertinent words from the last Angelus address of Pope Benedict in 2013: “The Christian life consists in continuously scaling the mountain to meet God and then coming back down, bearing the love and strength drawn from him, so as to serve our brothers and sisters with God’s own love.”

To ensure growth in a spirit of contemplation, I encourage you to make a retreat at Arnold Hall. Many retreats are available from now until mid-May.Please go to www.arnoldhall.org to see the dates.Bring a friend.People making a retreat for the first time, pay a special rate of $199.

We are taking applications for the Sebago Leadership Camp, which runs from June 23 – 29 this year, at St. Joseph’s College alongside Lake Sebago, in Standish, Maine. The Camp, for boys entering grade 5 through 8, will start its fifteenth year in June and features fun classes, sports, night games, daily Mass and more. Please go www.sebagoleadershipcamp.com for more information and to register.High school and college men are already meeting to plan the Camp. Those entering ninth grade can participate in the CIT (Counselors in Training) Weekend, July 5 – 9 at Wynnview in Vermont.Register for the CIT Weekend on the Sebago website.

Fathers and sons have been coming to the Center since the fall to take part in Horizons and Frontiers, the two Father-Son Clubs for younger boys. Many of them have spent a weekend at Wynnview in the last few weeks for a jam-packed weekend of sledding, basketball, swimming, and bonfires.

Sparhawk Academy, the school for boys in grades3 through8, in Millis, is off to a great start! Forty boys are enrolled and Bob Sylvain, the Head of School, is looking to expand the facilities to hold more boys for the fall.Besides going to class, the boys are competing with neighboring schools in basketball, baseball and robotics. Some are producing a movie. Many attend daily Mass. And the Sparhawk chickens are producing eggs!

Please consider making a contribution to Sparhawk Academy so it can keep up with its growth.Go to the website to see more and to make a donation: www.sparhawkacademy.org.
